MTV Will Honor Aretha Franklin At The Video Music Awards

The Video Music Awards are this Monday on MTV, and the network is making sure they do something to celebrate the life and career of Aretha Franklin, who passed away on Thursday. An MTV spokesperson did not offer more details, but said the show will “honor Aretha Franklin and pay tribute to her monumental legacy.” It is unknown if it will also be a montage of sorts, or a star-studded performance. Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj are already scheduled performers, so maybe a nice all-female line-up? Aretha does also have some VMA history, as she was nominated in 1986 and 1987 for the videos of “Freeway of Love” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”
