Camila Cabello, BLACKPINK, Billie Eilish Make Inaugural TIME 100 Next List

On Wednesday (November 13), TIME launched the first edition of its "TIME 100 Next" list, which expands upon the iconic "TIME 100" list and honors rising stars from various industries like entertainment, politics, and sports.

So many of our favorite performers were lucky enough to make the inaugural list including Camila Cabello, BLACKPINK (who just became the first K-pop band to join YouTube's 'billion views club'), Billie Eilish (who's breaking records left and right), Lil Nas X, Maggie Rogers, Bad Bunny and so many more.

With the announcement, TIME unveiled its six cover stars for the prestigious issues — which includes Cabello. Like the usual "TIME 100" list, fellow artists penned heartfelt notes about many on the new list. Spanish musician Alejandro Sanz wrote an incredible message to the 22-year-old singer.

Camila Cabello by Alejandro Sanz:

Camila Cabello is a pure and magnetic artist. We met a few years ago at the Latin Grammys, and shortly afterward, she told me that she wanted to sing together. In all my years in this industry, Camila was the first artist I’ve ever told that she could pick whatever song she wanted to sing.
When Camila decided to begin recording as a solo artist, following her success with Fifth Harmony, it was not just to begin to build her own career. By recording as a solo artist, she also brought the roots of Latin music to a much bigger audience.
In times like these, when noise can distort the purity of an artist’s message, Camila has managed to honor her story and her background in an authentic way with her pop music. The impact of her songs—from “Havana” and “Señorita” to “Shameless” and “Liar”—has opened the door so that the world can see and hear the massive potential of the Latin music community.
The privilege of being her friend is an inspiring gift.

Cabello also spoke candidly about mental health as well as staying open and honest with her fans during her TIME cover photo shoot. “I really just want to be as vulnerable and open as I can with them [the fans],” she said. “I'm gonna be human and myself for this whole ride.”
