Remember Jussie Smollett? He's Going On Trial

Jussie Smollett, the former star of the TV show "Empire,", has a new film, B-Boy Blues, and it's his directorial debut. He screened the film Friday in Harlem, but it still needs a distributor. It was a rare sighting to see Smollett outside the court room.

Smollett played Jamal Lyon in the hit show Empire", but now he will stand trial in Chicago starting on November 29th for his role in a phony hate crime that he allegedly helped stage back in January 2019.  The actor originally told police he was attacked by two men who shouted racial and homophobic slurs. But then the two men said Smollett paid them $3,500 to stage the attack, which Smollett hoped to capture on camera. The case briefly outraged the nation until the details were revealed.  Though the charges were first dropped by the office of Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx, the case against Smollett was later revived by a special prosecutor. Smollett — who has consistently denied any wrongdoing — was then charged with disorderly conduct once more He posted about his new film on Instagram.. and now he'll be back in the news soon when he goes in trial for allegedly making that whole hate crime up.
